THE GREEN PARTY COP26 HUB

This year, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, is being hosted by the UK in Glasgow from 31 October to 12 November 2021. It will take place against a background of accelerating climate disasters all around the world.

And it cannot afford to fail.

To promote the bold and ambitious policies that are needed to meet the 1.5C Paris target, the Green Party will be working to widen the range of policies that are part of the national debate and to influence governments to take action. See below for more on Green Party campaigns that will be running across the UK.

Communities protecting what they love

The impacts of climate change are all around us. Only a handful of people will actually go to COP26, but the decisions made there will affect all of us.

This year - and every year - Green Councillors and local Green parties around the UK are taking action with their communities to protect the things they love as the environment and nature crisis continues.  Whether that’s their homes from extreme flooding, animals in their local countryside or greenbelt land from development.

Resetting the global balance of climate justice

Although for more and more of us the devastation of climate change is now on our doorstep, poorer countries still experience the worst impacts and have done so for many years.

In the run up to COP we’re calling for a commitment to global reparations with the richest countries paying back those who have less for the impact of our emissions and to help build resilience for the future.

Making Polluters
Pay for a Just Transition

A huge amount of damage to our environment comes from industrial emissions, with just a handful of companies responsible for a massive percentage.

We want to see polluters taking action to reduce their emissions but also to pay for what they’ve already contributed through a carbon tax. That way we’ll be using our economic system to support protection for the planet and raising some of the money needed to fund the shift to Green industry.
